Step 1: roll a single D6 die.
Step 2: Look at the second hand on your watch. Determine the last "hour" it past. For example, at 27 seconds, the last hour is 5:00
Step 3: Add the D6 result to that hour. Since clocks use modulo math, we will always get a single number from 1-12.
When you're ready to dress, after showering, brushing your teeth and all that jazz, etc. let's say you roll a 5. The last hour the second hand on your watch touched is a 9. Using modulo math, 9 + 5 = 2. Therefore, the entropy of the dice determined I will wear a black polo shirt and blue jeans. Well...it's an Amazon Essentials polo shirt, but same difference. If I rolled a 3, I would wear a suit with a gray short and a tie. Which tie depends on a single roll of a D10 die. What if that tie doesn't match? Oh well, fuck the fashion police.
This is somewhat situational of course. I'm never wearing a suit to do a 15-mile bike ride no matter how the dice may fall. I've been wearing the same outfit every day for about 2 years and have longed for a little variety, but Iove how little time it takes to get dressed when one adopts a uniform such as this. It allows me to usey unusual math skills for something more than making another bitcoin wallet. Modulo math is the first thing I learned on the MIT cryptography MOOC.
How I Created This Modulo Math Wardrobe
I heard Cyan Banister say she uses a locket with dice to dress herself similarly on the Tim Ferris podcast. I already have over a hundred dice and can't see spending sats on more. I already had a D10 die. I like it because there is a 10% chance of landing on any givin digit and I happen to have ten ties.
I chose 12 outfits from my closet. I can't use two dice to choose 12 outfits however. 7 is the most likely number wirh two dice and ghe number 1 is impossible to roll. Dan Harrington, ib Harrington on Poker suggets using the second hand on a watch as a random number generator to randomize bluffs. I've always liked this idea, but it's more random in poker than in real life. I get up at 5:01 a.m. every morning. I added a single die to eliminate the risk of looking at my watch at the same time every morning.
Why Am I Doing This?
Cyan Banister says people wearing suits are cosplaying adults. She made it sound like suits have some kind of magical power over people. I don't think it's really magic, but people look at you different if you wear a suit and tie. They think it makes you look important. That makes most people want to throw money at you like a naked stripper. Maybe that's why they call it a "birthday suit."
Suits have the opposite effect on me. They gove me the heebie jeepies. They make me think of politcians, bankers, smelly used car salesman, and crypto scammers. I don't even like to wear suits on job interviews because of this. Why the hell would anyone want to hire someone dressed like Bernie Madoff?
If I wear a suit 8.5% of the time, maybe it will lead to better opportunities. Maybe a suit will help mw land a better job or at least network with someone who can point ms on the right direction. If it really makes a difference, I might add more suits to my wardrobe. I can't say it will for sure, but this is my hypothesis. This is just an experiment. Maybe this new wardrobe will change my life. Maybe it won't. Let the dice fall where they may.
